Hybridize x NRGetic Romancer - Hybridize Special CD

August 28th, 2009 by PlasmaDancer

Here’s the physical version of the Hybridize/NRGetic Romancer promo mix that was handed out last month - sorry I can’t upload it yet though, as a few copies are being sent to Finland and the UK as we speak. For the time being I couldn’t resist at least sneaking a photo up on here - it looks a lot more ‘pro’ than I was expecting, a big kiitos to Guld for all his hard work the week before the event.

Decion - Viral Weaponry

August 28th, 2009 by PlasmaDancer

Ok, so here’s the other end of the scale from the Sam one/Amini set - Decion’s newest dose of Hard NRG. It’s as well mixed as you’d expect, and the selection is really good…I especially liked the sudden lightening up of the set with the last track, Thrillseeker. Not sure if I’m imagining it, but there seem to be some longer mixes in this one too, with some nice combining of two tracks. A special mention for Alchemiist’s amazing remix of Grimlock - I played an intro edit of Sam one’s original at the last two NRGetic Romancers, and this one has some brilliant sounding synths…it might be my favourite thing from Alchemiist so far.

Here’s the tracklist:

  1. NARC - Gametime
  2. NARC - 55 Calibre (Dan Dyson Remix)
  3. Alchemiist - The Day I Died
  4. Marc Johnson - Terrorised
  5. Whitehayz - House Proud
  6. Jupe - Negotiation
  7. Sam One - Grimlock (Alchemiist Remix)
  8. OD 404 - Rubberised (Justin Bourne Remix)
  9. Whitehayz - One More
  10. Grady G - Divided
  11. Grady G - Hard As Fuck
  12. Nice Guy Danny - Thrillseeker

Sam one vs Amini - August 09 set

August 28th, 2009 by PlasmaDancer

I’ve given this a listen and really wanted to post it up - as you can see, it’s a set including tunes from Hybridize’s Sam one, but the trouble is I don’t have a tracklist or any other info yet. The style is hard trance with some great melodies and freeform-ish harder synths, but goes into funkier territory as well. It’s nice to hear a melodic-only set for a change (check the next post for the opposite), and this one’s definitely recommended.

[edit: Thanks to Decion for the tracklist!]

  1. Sam one - Alone On The Pacific
  2. Iridium - Sonance (Original Mix)
  3. Masif Djs - Reaching Into My Brain (Adrenaline Dept. Mix)
  4. Emilio - Sabotage (Original Mix)
  5. Nicholson & Fallout - Essence of Serenity
  6. Nik Spiers - Ignition
  7. MDA & Spherical - Futurism (MDA & Spherical EP 2)
  8. Elements Vs. Alex Mac & Zeebra Kid - Harmonise (Iridium remix)
  9. Emilio - Immense
  10. Iridium - Engage (Original mix)
  11. Iridium Nicky D Feat. Amy D - The Sounds Control Me

Energy Cocktail, 22nd August

August 23rd, 2009 by PlasmaDancer

I got back from Energy Cocktail this morning, and it was a really good event. The turnout wasn’t as high as I was expecting though, especially as the organisers have been promoting it non-stop for the last couple of months. Anyway, it was my first time to see Kevin Energy live, and he blew the roof off with his set. Actually, it was the first time to see DJs Tekka, Silver and T-Energy too, so it was well worth the trip.

Zio - Hell’s Gate (PlasmaDancer remix)

August 22nd, 2009 by PlasmaDancer

So here’s my debut track at last - I’m still not 100% sure that this is the final version (it probably is, though), and for the time being I’ve uploaded it to a player here instead of making it downloadable. Once I’m happy-ish, it’ll be going up on here as a 320kbps file, of course. (Actually, the player isn’t working well right now, so click the link at the bottom of the post to download the 112kbps version instead)

The original is an unfinished track by Zio from last year sometime - it was showing some real promise (the main melody, especially), and Zio very kindly asked me if I’d like to try my own version. Zio’s original is 160bpm, with some real grinding bass stuff going on, but for a mastering novice/idiot like me, keeping all that in would have meant no room for any other sounds…. In the end, once I had the main melody in there I tried not to listen to Zio’s version at all, and just messed around by myself - two things I went for were a dark/nasty breakdown and a sort of high-speed feel to the drums/tune itself. Other than that, I didn’t really have a clue what I was doing, and learnt a lot as I was going along…a bit of a step up from FastTracker 2 (!).

Anyway, even though this version is only 112kbps, it’d be great if you have a listen and let me know what you think - good, bad, all feedback welcome. About the FINRG style snotty synth…it’s an awesome sound, and I can’t really take credit for it as it’s in Zio’s original. I tweaked it very slightly, but all thanks to him for that.

Cogi live @NRGetic Romancer, 15th August 09

August 22nd, 2009 by PlasmaDancer

A new post at last - but this one’s worth the wait, I hope. Cogi’s set at last week’s NRGetic Romancer was Dark Psy once again, and he’s already made the file available for download. I don’t have a tracklist yet, so I’ll try to sort that out as soon as I can, but have a listen in the meantime anyway. It’s a brilliant set, expertly mixed, and 100% ‘Cogi style’.

Muse - New Born (Kreatrix remix)

August 19th, 2009 by PlasmaDancer

Just in case you missed the original post, here’s an updated version of Twisted Freq’s new track. Now called New Born, this one has a few improvements on the original (though the quality isn’t too high, so listen carefully). Thanks again to TF, and don’t forget to check out Suicide Club, too.

NRGetic Romancer, 18th July

August 12th, 2009 by PlasmaDancer

I’m now recovering from completing the Hybridize mix CD, so it’s a good chance to round up the last event before the next one on Saturday. This time there might be a few gaps, for a few different reasons, but bear with me….it was another really good event though, and it was nice to meet both Jody 6 and Justin Charge (plus DJ Silver who came along too).

Ghost in the Shell: Innocence theme @Cinema Symphony

August 9th, 2009 by PlasmaDancer

I only saw/heard this recently, but what with Al megiddo still being so popular (Guld’s favourite ThermalForce tune, actually), I had to post it up here. This piece is taken from the Innocence film, not the original Ghost in the Shell, but it has the same feel, definitely. Some extremely awesome taiko drumming too - the composer, Kenji Kawai, is saying in the first clip about how he was searching all over the place for this sort of fast, cool drumming before he eventually found his man.

I saw Innocence a few years ago in a really bad cinema in London, with terrible sound, and I haven’t seen it since - so I didn’t recognise this theme at all, to be honest (edit: which is a bit ridiculous, as Twisted Freq used the opening in his track Innocence…thanks to Jiipez for that!) . It’s real ‘hairs standing on end’ stuff towards the end though and as amazing as most of Kawai’s work, so be sure to get through the second video if you have time.

TYFTH presents: Betwixt & Between - Genshi Kurage

August 8th, 2009 by PlasmaDancer

Sorry this has taken so long, but finally it’s ok to share Betwixt & Between’s classic tune Genshi Kurage. It seems like most people on here know it already (and it was in DJ Azsa’s Floral Freeform set a while ago), but if you haven’t heard this one it’s really typical of Betwixt’s style from a few years ago, Finnish-styled but pretty experimental. It’s also got that insane/genius breakdown, where things slow down and the bleepy melody kicks in.

Download here, but maybe before too long I’ll add a ‘Tracks’ part to the site too, just in case anyone misses the original posts.
